Beautiful walk to Lago Bolsena. As we crested the rim of the crater that holds the lake at San Lorenzo Nuovo we were struck by the beauty of this unspoiled gem. One of our friends describes it as the best kept secret in Italy. He may be right.
We stayed at a hotel on the lakefront, an unnecessary luxury since we spent only 8 hours in the room and never opened the curtains. It’s the thought that counts. For the first time on our entire journey we had dinner with friends, Ian and Lyndsay, and their friends Stephany and Mark. We gushed with excitement to answer their questions, monopolizing the conversation even more than our usual custom . Good seafood too.
Tomorrow onto Montefiascone

LOVE Balsamo! THE most beautiful lake swimming of my life. We were staying in Montefiascone before coming to Todi for the Vitale celebration in 2019. While in that city had one of the great dinners of our lives at Osmosi Osteria…despite the fact that they spoke no English and Paul’s limited Italian didn’t extend to four star dining 🙂 Enjoy!! look forward to your updates every day

Bolsena is a good sized lake, I understand it’s the largest volcanic lake in Europe, although not one of the many crater lakes on your way to Rome. I believe you landed in the northern part of the lake and are making your way to Montefiascone and then Viterbo. Not as bucolic as Tuscany, but still beautiful land. Watch the temperature and take your time.
